Mindfulness as a Principle: A Step in Becoming Super Human

So, as you can see from the last article, life has not been unicorns and cupcakes for me. In fact, I’ve had a very traumatizing life with enough excuses to last a lifetime, but no amount of excuses will stop this lady! At one point I had to say, I’m responsible for all of my actions and I must be mindful of my thoughts and actions. I know that sounds a little redundant, but it’s true. You are responsible for you. I don’t care what happened to you, today is not yesterday.

I read this amazing book called “Becoming Super Human”, which I highly recommend. One of the many points the book made was being responsible for yourself, today. Not what happened to you in the past, not yesterday. Your mood and emotions are created by what has happened to you in the past, but you have the mind to shape how you react to your thoughts.

After 12 years of living under an abusive father, I developed a lot of misshapen beliefs. I told myself I was fat, ugly, unlovable, stupid… blah, blah, blah. I was genuinely awful to myself. But then I read a few books and I learned that I was the only one in control. The stuff that happened to me 15 years ago is gone. Stuff that happened to me 1 year ago is over. It’s me, I am now, and I am in control.

I could follow in my parent’s footsteps and drink and to do drugs, but I choose not to. I began to understand that I am me, not them. My mother is wonderful and I love her, but there was a time when I could not like her because of drugs. She’s sober now and we get along fine, but I could have easily gone down the same path. Mindfulness keeps me present. I choose to make my path; I refuse to let past actions make me into something that I’m not meant to be. Being present and in control of your emotions is what makes you an intelligent human being.

When you control your thoughts, you control your future.

When you actually control your thoughts, and not let your thoughts and emotions control you, that’s when you take control of your life. Mindfulness will bring you freedom. Control your mind and you control your reality. There’s no easy path but there is a clear and defined path that you can take. The concept is easy, but knowing and walking the path are two completely separate things, trust me I know.

I read a lot, well not as much as Elon Musk, but a lot compared to the average person and I’ve learned a lot. Actually doing something is a completely different thing. For example, thinking before speaking. A classic example we all try to do. There’s no such thing as perfection and, in my opinion, absolutes do not exist in humans. It is impossible to do nothing; you’re always doing something. You are a creator, you bring energy to your own reality.

When you see a person with a good attitude, you see good things tend to happen to them all the time. When you see a person with a bad attitude, nothing ever seems to be going right. It’s the energy you expend and you must be mindful of your thoughts.

“Whether you think you can, or can’t, you are right”- Henry Ford

I’ve always admired Henry Ford. He understood the power of mindfulness and believing in yourself. He didn’t finish high school yet his invention of the assembly line was one of the most advanced technologies in the world. He believed he could accomplish anything, even without knowing all the information. He succeeded because he believed in himself and he believed in the power of the people he hired. He always reminds me to keep expanding my mind. You don’t have to know everything to make things happen! You are capable of anything you put your mind to! Let keep expanding our minds together!
